Andy Whitehead is the Founder and President of FigBrew, LLC. He, along with his wife and co-founder, Marianne Whitehead, established FigBrew in May 2020. Andy and Marianne love coffee but not the side effects caffeine can bring. Many coffee drinkers experience headaches, insomnia, irritability, or digestive issues as a result of caffeine. So, Andy found a healthy alternative to coffee. His PhD in Physics and his determination to solve a problem helped him create the fig- based coffee. After spending many months in research and development, he learned how to roast and grind figs from scratch to extract the best flavor. Q: For someone who's never had a fig beverage, how would you describe yours? A: It's remarkably like coffee with notes of caramel and chocolate. Customers say it tastes like tea when brewed on the weaker side, like coffee when brewed strong, and that it's smoother, more mellow, and less bitter than a typical coffee. In addition to drinks, it can also be used in recipes like brownies and BBQ rubs. Q: What's the funniest experience you've had since launching FigBrew? A: While at a tradeshow, a customer asked what we did. When I said that we make a beverage out of roasted fig, she got a horrified look on her face and slowly backed away without saying a word. I just shrugged and moved on, figuring you can't please everyone. A friend of hers came up laughing, saying she thought we made a beverage out of roasted pig – even though the name of the company is FigBrew, not PigBrew. What a difference a consonant can make! Q: What else are you passionate about? A: Marianne and I have five dogs and two cats – all adopted. We're both passionate about supporting spay and neuter programs and adopting pets. r e d f c u.o r g | 15 M E M B E R S H I P Member's Moment : When your business or organization becomes a Redstone Membership Partner, your employees and members are eligible to join Redstone.
