FALL 2021 33 www.corfuimports.com info@corfuimports.com CONTACT US VISIT OUR VIRTUAL BOOTH FOR FURTHER DETAILS https://bit.ly/3yO2Zjy "We are seeing [confectionery] ingredients that are tied specifically to different functional and emotional benefits such as espresso (caffeine for energy boost), and botanicals like mint and lavender for stress relief, calm, and a good night's sleep," notes Evelyn Ignatow, owner Hyde Park Gourmet, Cincinnati, Ohio. Ignatow says both Milkboy Chocolate's 72% chocolate with Crispy Mint and 72% bar with Roasted Coffee are popular along with John Kelly Chocolates Dark Chocolate Espresso bar. As the better-for-you benefits of CBD become more widely accepted, Ignatow believes we will continue to see new formats and flavor variations within the CBD space in specialty confections. Hyde Park recently added Martha Stewart Wellness Gummies to its candy selection. A nod to lower-sugar confections and the importance of heritage cacao and preservation, whole fruit cacao—products being created from the entire cacao pod, including the pulp and peel—will give consumers a chance to experience Maui Fruit Jewels in flavors of guava and passion fruit, let customers' taste buds do the traveling. And while liquor-infused chocolates are nothing new, craft spirits have infiltrated craft chocolate, keeping the popular pandemic craft cocktailing trend alive. The Xocolate Bar's Cocktail Time truffles are made with California craft liqueurs including Humboldt Vodka with raspberry and Lost Republic Bourbon. Consciously Indulging As more consumers seek to balance the desire for indulgent treats with healthy eating, what they look for in a snack or sweet treat is shifting. This trend toward conscious indulgence is driving treats with ingredients that are healthier in some way. According to Glanbia Nutritional's report, 64 percent of global consumers believe it is okay to enjoy indulgent treats as part of a healthy diet, especially if they offer some type of functional nutrition. Emerging Flavors • Calamansi • Chai • Coconut • Coffee • Dukkah • Mango • Matcha • Pineapple • Sesame • Strawberry Lemonade • Tamarind • Turmeric • Yuzu TruFru Nature's Pineapple Pina Colada
