By establishing women's-only leagues, shooting
clubs have helped create places where previously
underrepresented shooters can come into their own.
"In the past, it has been a male-dominated sport,"
Mary acknowledges. "Some women aren't bothered
by that, but some are. e women's league helps give
them confidence because they're working alongside
other women."
"It also gives them a time to get together to enjoy one
another and to have a night out together," she adds.
As women gain confidence within the structure of
their leagues, they oen branch out into co-ed leagues
as well.
"Our ladies' league has opened the door to other
leagues having a lot more women in them," Mary
says excitedly. "ere definitely isn't the intimidation
anymore for a lot of these women!"
eir passion for shooting clay can also have a positive
impact on their families.
"Women and youth are the fastest-growing portions
of shooting sports today," Mary points out. "If women
shoot, chances are the whole family will shoot."
