"Now, I include kid-friendly recipes in my boxes, like a haystack recipe and mud pudding." Arntzen says she appreciates all the support she has received from her customers. "Some are going to very rural families whose children aren't going to preschool, and others are families who don't have the time to prepare the activities," she says. Arntzen's family has also been supportive of her new venture and help whenever possible. Son, Knox, helps cut out and assemble lesson materials, and her daughter, Knealy, oen demonstrates how to do activities for online videos. While Arntzen has been marketing her new business venture primarily through social media, she says most of her sales have come from word-of-mouth. "I want to break the ag niche and get into the cities, but the algorithms on social media are funny, and there are limitations," she explains. "If social media thinks you are trying to sell something, they block your post. Short videos, called reels, are the way to go, and you have to post something every day." Arntzen's Instagram handle, @Arntzen.Adventures, features video clips and photos of her family and ranch life with links to her Facebook business page, e Rural Resource Room, which features an old door logo. "When I first visited the Winifred School and opened my classroom for the first time, I fell in love with the door," she explains. "It was an old dark wooden door with four single- pane windows. It was inviting. I want my new adventure to be inviting to others, to try something new." An image of e Rural Resource Room door greets children as they open each "agtivity" box, which also includes an artfully handwrien personal note for each "cowpoke." "ese boxes provide one-on-one time with your kids to do an ag-based activity and lesson," says Arntzen. "rough this, I have found I can still be a teacher and still be with my family." Arntzen's agriculture activity boxes can be ordered via a monthly subscription or single purchase by e-mail at kristamarntzen@gmail.com. Krista Arntzen holds up her Rural Resource Room logo, an old classroom door from her classroom at Winifred School, while in her home office. Arntzen places the logo in each activity box, inviting customers to try something new.
