An optional fan control module allows the fans to be turned on and off remotely. Unfortunately, it's a risk that's all too oen unavoidable when grain clumps or clogs. Even when stationary, grain can sele beneath someone inside the bin and quickly lead to entrapment. Entrapment can occur in four to five seconds, and full engulfment can result in only eight seconds. Once entrapped, it is nearly impossible for a person to free themselves. One foot of grain can create about 300 pounds of pressure, making it extremely difficult for others to pull someone out. According to Purdue University, the United States averaged about 35 reported grain-handling incidents per year from 2005 to 2015; about 60% to 70% were fatal. e patent-pending Grain Weevil, powered by JLI Robotics is a mobile robot designed to prevent unnecessary grain bin deaths. e device skims across the top of grain inside a storage bin, performing tasks that no farmer should ever consider doing. e auger-driven robot is remote- controlled and designed to engage with the grain directly to aerate, move, and manage the grain. Invented by University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) students Ben Johnson and Zane Zents, the Grain Weevil robot weighs less than 30 pounds, is small enough to fit in a backpack, and uses horizontal augers and gravity to level and redistribute grain within a bin. e robot rests on two augers that propel it forward and simultaneously does the work of leveling and aerating the grain without flipping over or geing buried. e drilling action of the augers in conjunction with the natural force of gravity facilitates grain movement and maintains appropriate viscosity, moisture levels, and temperature. e robotic device is waterproof and dustproof and can dig out from up to five feet of grain if accidentally buried. e Grain Weevil is still in the development stages and not commercially available. BIN-SENSE Live® reports moisture and hot spots before they become a problem. You get real-time data that you can access remotely from any location. You can customize your seings, so you'll get a notification on your phone if the spoilage risk is high. How it works: Each yard site requires a Master Bin Sense Live Module. is unit is Solar Powered and creates the data link to the Bin Sense Cloud, where data is stored. Communication is done via Cell Signal. e Master Unit monitors one grain bin. It also communicates with the other bins in the same yard up to 300 yards away. Moisture & temperature upper and lower limits can be set from your Smartphone. Bin Sense Live will monitor your bins 24/7 and send you alerts via Text/Email if an alarm situation occurs. You can also log in to check your bins anytime you choose. Remote Grain Monitoring System • Grain Weevil Keeps Farmers out of Grain Bins The Grain Weevil helps level grain in a bin, assists with grain- quality management, and helps with farm safety by eliminating the need to enter a bin manually.
