DECADENT DESIGN
"We basically had a blank slate to work with," Carrie explains. "We did
a lot of work in the basement to do reinforcements on the floor, and
we built the stage and bathrooms and the mezzanine level facing the
performance area."
e Newberry team also found ways to retain key elements of the
historic building, including its original hardwood flooring and exposed
brick interior walls. Out front, an old reader board tells visitors about
e Newberry's coming aractions.
"We found a crate of leering for the old Dixie Shop next door and used
the 'SHOP' portion to hang above our merchandise counter," Carrie adds.
"e venue has this kind of industrial feel with the exposed ceilings and
brick. Aesthetically, there's nothing else like it around here."
