Broad Spectrum is a contemporary quilting exhibit showcasing art quilts by 21 artists chosen by Executive Director Sarah Justice of the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art. "Broad Spectrum is an exhibition of art quilts that go beyond what many people think or know about quilts," says Justice. An art quilt is defined as "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure," according to the Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA), to which the featured artists belong. e organization was launched in 1989 with the goal of establishing a place for art quilts in the world of contemporary art. For this juried show, quilters and fiber artists were asked to submit artworks based on their interpretation of the theme, "Broad Spectrum." "I selected works that stretched the limits of tradition," says Justice. "When viewing these quilts, you will be challenged, inspired, and in awe of what you see. From small scale to large scale, the quilts vary stylistically and contextually. Come be inspired at e Square." e "Broad Spectrum" exhibit is presented by Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art (and organized by the Northcu Steele Gallery of Montana State University-Billings, Mont.
