RETAILOBSERVER.COM MAY 2022 12 SECOND PLACE / LARGE CONTEMPORARY BATH Patricia Calasich, Designer-in-Chief KasaMia Interiors Photo: Mayra Roubach Sophisticated Sanctuary Our client's desire was to renovate their outdated master bathroom into a sanctuary that felt sophisticated and timeless. They wanted to use natural materials such as marble slabs and wood and pair it with polished nickel fixtures for a sleek look. Our design solutions included: relocating the entrance to the bathroom and centering it with the new wall-to-wall vanity; creating a reveal detail at the height of the vanity and baseboard to piece the slabs and wood panels into more manageable sizes for transport to the site and in the service elevators. They were also easier to install, minimizing the risk of breakage and waste of material; designing layers of wood columns and stone walls to transition from material to material in an effortless way; creating a built-in unit in the space left after the removal of the bidet. The new built-in unit provides a combination of open shelves and storage; designing a painted wood lacquer vanity to add the polished touch that our client was looking for, without adding more materials and finishes; bringing the vanity mirrors all the way to the ceiling so the stone pieces on the vanity area were only required between the mirrors. This design made for a more efficient use of the material and allowed an easier installation. Each slab was hand picked and selected for each wall. There was careful attention to detail to ensure that the veins of the marble slabs were continuous and the pieces would not mix or break during transportation and installation. We combined fixtures from Waterworks and Kohler with similar profiles. The glass window in the shower has a privacy setting, so when not in use the glass becomes transparent and allows a view into the master bedroom with an ocean view. The floor slabs were selected from the same lot of slabs used on the walls, but these were finished with a leather texture and cut to size to match the spaces. A smart toilet was added with built-in bidet feature and separate control with additional features. Built-in closets at the entrance of the bathroom included hidden dirty hampers and storage for towels and others. Flush-mount LED lights were installed above floating shower bench and toilet. Reveal detail continued inside the shower and soft LED accent lighting under vanity and shower bench.
