Key points to remember Better technology may seem hard initially, but its value comes in making processes easier in the long run. Hospitals and health systems have repeatedly invested in 18-to-24-month platform transition efforts to secure that the best, most efficient solutions are in use. The needs of your practice shouldn't conform to technology. Technology should conform to your practice's needs. With the majority of PIMS users (67%) sticking with their platform for over six years, and 47% of that group sticking to a system for 10 or more years, it's clear that expectations for better technology aren't exactly high. However, if anything, this gives practices a significant amount of leverage to shop around. Knowing how technology works should never be a barrier to getting technology that works for you. Cloud technology, for example, can seem inaccessibly complicated compared to the analog, plugged-in set-up of an on-premise solution, but the flexibility and design of cloud solutions brings a lot more security, options, and amenities, with a lot less effort to the veterinary practice. Adaptable technologies will reduce future-ready friction. Adaptable technologies, like cloud platforms, don't fight against the tide of changing times — they go with the flow. As consumers expect more shared data, technologies that can meet such needs will best serve their users. Veterinary practices may not be fans of rapid change, but when well-served by technology, changes, even rapid ones, can happen with minimal disruption. 13 Spring/Summer 2022 | Equine Solutions Elevating veterinary technology expectations
