ML CERTIFICATION NEWS ICML EXAMS Now Available in RUSSIAN By Suzy Jamieson, ICML The International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML) recently conducted its first certification exam session where tests were administered in Russian. The onsite session was held in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, for a group of Bunge technicians taking the Machine Lubricant Analyst (MLA) Level I exam. Russian becomes the ninth language into which ICML exams have been translated, with the others being English, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French and Italian. Exams in German will also soon be available. In addition, translation into other languages, including Thai and Polish, is already in progress or under consideration. Having ICML credentials as the standard, companies such as Bunge can ensure the uniformity of skills at a benchmarked level through testing on a body of knowledge representative of skills required of technicians in order to perform their duties at a worldclass level. Bunge, a leading agribusiness and food company with integrated operations that circle the globe, has seen the value of training and certifying its technicians for improved reliability and better management of its assets. The unified ICML certification process helps ensure that Bunge technicians at different plants around the world are on par with their North American counterparts, for example. Shortly after the Ukraine session, ICML administered another Russian language certification exam session in St. Petersburg, Russia. The public exam was held after a seminar presented by OU AA Inlube. Arno Rõuk, chief technical officer of OU AA Inlube, served as the course instructor. ICML would like to extend its thanks to Rõuk and to OU AA Inlube's CEO, Anu Ritson, for their sponsorship of the exam venue as well as for their efforts in promoting ICML and the knowledge transfer in the areas of machinery lubrication and oil analysis within the region. Their participation as local liaisons and technical consultants for ICML is most appreciated. ICML would also like to express its appreciation for its volunteer technical advisor and reviewer, professor Sergei Glavatskikh, who was instrumental in ensuring the exams were available in time for the inaugural session of the Russian exams. Now in its 13th year of operation, ICML certification is offered in more than 95 countries around the world and in many local languages. The organization currently has more than 10,000 certified practitioners around the globe. ICML's mission is to dignify the careers of lubrication technicians and oil analysts on a global basis.
