TEXT BY SCOTT SERY PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED Topping Out on Montana's Highest Point TRIP DAY G R A N I T E P E A K DISCLAIMER: Hiking/climbing Granite Peak is not recommended for novice climbers. Most experienced climbers make it an overnight trip. The standard route to the summit involves a strenuous 10 to 12-mile, 6300-foot hike followed by sections of exposed class 3 and 4 rock climbing. There are many nearby, less challenging peaks that are great for gaining experience before tackling Granite.
