THE RETAIL
W
ow, 15 years of growing with The Retail Observer! How quickly the years
have passed, and how many changes have occurred in our world during
that time. Those of us in the industry are still weathering the storms of a
recession and accompanying inflation, learning to market our products and services in
a new and different way and measuring the results of our efforts.
When entering this exciting publishing venture fifteen years ago picking up where
Chuck Edmonds (founder of The Retail Observer) left off, we embarked on the journey
to continue his dream and maintain his legacy. We had no idea what that would look
like into the future, what roads it would take us down. With the combined efforts of our
team – Moe Lastfogel's experience in the appliance industry/sales arena, Terry Price's
artistic eye for design and layout, and my design/build background — we forged ahead.
With additional knowledge from experts in the industry, The Retail Observer has
grown from a 32-page regional "news rag" into an internationally acclaimed news
magazine. We couldn't be happier with the growth we have accomplished and the
caliber of the publication we produce today.
It has been an amazing experience to travel around the nation and abroad, visiting
manufacturing facilities and gaining exposure to different corporate cultures. These
diverse ways of doing business have helped shape our field and bring a broader
sense of how our industry is being run.
We especially have enjoyed the connection with the independent retailers: the
mom and pops, the interactions with their families, and the ability to watch their
businesses adapt and expand. It feels good to be a part of their experience in the
growth and management of their businesses, and we will continuously strive to source
new and pertinent information for our retailers, designers and builders within the
kitchen and bath industry and to highlight more of their accomplishments in the future.
As always, the driving force of The Retail Observer is to supply education and
opportunities to retailers and designers to move from surviving back to thriving in the
years ahead. We have enjoyed our journey over the past 15 years and thank all of
those who have helped us grow — our manufacturers, associations, buying groups, as
well as our own amazing and dedicated team. We especially thank you, our readers.
You are the heart of The Retail Observer.
