This home in Saint Paul's historical designation
district pre-dates building permits and is estimated
to have been constructed in 1882. Through the
years, multiple additions were undertaken and the
home was separated into single-room rentals. This
whole-home renovation aimed to create a modern,
open floor plan for today's owners while preserving
and emphasizing the historical charm and design
details of the original construction. During the
extensive remodel and addition work, hand-painted
billboard signage was uncovered and incorporated
into the home's design.

Built in 1902, this home has the fine crafts-
manship typical of homes of the time – but a
previous owner's remodel was poorly done, with
no attention given to maintaining the originality of
the structure. The only remaining original element
was the main light fixture in the kitchen. The clients
wanted to restore some of the originality, while
creating a more open design and a more functional
kitchen. Through a collaborative design process,
the clients' living space was connected to the rest
of the house and to their exterior space, all while
keeping the historical style a primary focus.
