30 I ICT TODAY CODES AND STANDARDS Designers of these smart/intelligent buildings face some significant challenges trying to converge all of the building systems into a cohesive system. There are several standards to consider, which include: American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/ BICSI-007 2020, Design and Implementation Practices for Intelligent Buildings This publication serves as the seminal standard for the design and implementation of ICT infrastructure nec- essary for all network-enabled building systems, from traditional, smart, Internet of Things (IoT), emerging and everything in between. Within this 50-page expansion, requirements, recommendations, and guidance have been expanded to cover additional systems and the latest methods and trends within building design, providing for flexibility and longevity in designs, even for those system and cabling concepts which have not yet made it to market. As these systems become commonplace, information on reliability, network design, security, and cloud support were also added. In addition to infrastructure, material for common building systems and powering methods (e.g., PoE) was also reviewed and expanded, with the following systems being covered in greater detail: • Building automation systems (BAS) • Building management systems (BMS) • Energy management systems (EMS) • Low voltage / PoE Lighting • Electronic security systems (ESS) ■ Video surveillance ■ Access control ■ Intrusion detection ■ Class N fire alarm • Intercom, paging, and mass notification • Sound masking • Digital signage and wayfinding • Asset management with radio frequency identification (RFID) • Vertical transportation (e.g., elevators) ANSI/Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)-862, Structured Cabling Infrastructure Standard for Intelligent Building Systems The 'C' revision is ready for publication and is waiting for the referenced standard ANSI/TIA-5071, Requirements for Field Test Instruments and Measurements for Balanced Single Twisted-Pair Cabling, was approved on June 8, 2022. TIA-862-C is also approved for publication. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO)/International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) equivalent is ISO/IEC 11801-6 ISO/IEC 11801-6 Amendment 1 was distributed on July 11, 2022 for ballot with a closing date of September 2, 2022. Resolving the comments is at the next ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC 25 WG 3 meeting on September 26-29 2022, which will be virtual. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 72 National Fire Alarm and Security Code, 2022 While this code focuses on the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems, a new chapter on Cybersecurity (Chapter 11) was added to this document in the release of the 2022 edition. This chapter was added to address the integra- tion of systems (particularly Chapter 24, Emergency Communication Systems) within a building.
