Do Not Forget About RACI and Culture
Although they do not deal directly with technology, corporate culture and responsible, accountable, consulted,
and informed (RACI) matrices matter in smart building projects. In addition to talking about technologies, culture
and people must also be discussed (Figure 5). In fact, technology is usually the easiest hurdle to overcome.
It is the culture and people that can make smart building projects challenging based on:
• Changes in points of view and objectives
• Varied interactions based on personality and culture
• Various levels of buy-in
• The teams or individuals managing different aspects of the project
• Interactions between building owners, managers, and tenants or occupants
