32 I ICT TODAY The concept is generic and applies to any pre-terminated cable type, whether optical fiber, balanced twisted-pair Ethernet, or coaxial, as well as any connector type. The PCPA is simply designed to match the diameter of the cable and to span its connector. The landmark application for the first PCPA is the 100 million installations per year of FTTx, which result in a long optical fiber pre-connectorized cable being deployed as an indoor extension of the drop cable all the way to the location of the Wi-Fi router. This is one more reason why FTTx operators may prefer to use 4.8 mm (≈0.189 in) pre-connectorized cables indoors. CONCLUSION Pre-terminated cables and the PCPAs are new tools in the installer's toolkit, which are poised to make installations with pre-terminated cables much easier, much faster, and standardized, while causing less damage to building structures. The ecological balance of PCPA is strong because using a PCPA can avoid DIY schemes that generate non-recyclable electrical tape scraps. The PCPAs are recy- clable, reusable, and can be reintegrated in the supply chain of PCPAs to make more. The problems solved by PCPAs are good reasons to responsibly introduce a new plastic part in the market, as used to accelerate the transition to PONs that consume less electricity and promote sufficient and more efficient speeds. AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY: Francois D. Menard is a 30-year veteran of the ICT and telecommunications industries. His entre- preneurial ventures include running the first ISP in the eastern townships of Quebec, the first company having developed a VoIP adapter, a 12-year tenure as a project manager building dark fiber optic networks, and starting a CLEC from the ground up. This was followed by another 10-year tenure as the CTO of a deep tech silicon photonics start-up. He holds more than 18 patents in the fields of integrated optics and passive optical networks. Francois is the founder of PulR Technologies Inc.
