SFA Names New Officers, Directors
This summer, Jon Pruden, CEO of the TASTE
Family of Businesses, became the new chair of
the SFA board of directors. Nona Lim, founder of
the eponymous Asian food company Nona Lim,
was named vice chair; Pierre Abushacra, president
and cofounder of Firehook Bakery, was named
treasurer; and Jill Giacomini Basch, co-owner and
chief marketing officer, Point Reyes Farmstead
Cheese Co., was named secretary.
Two new directors joined the board: Victoria
Ho and Scott Jensen. Ho is cofounder and head
of brand strategy and innovation at Sherpa CPG,
and Jensen is cofounder and CEO at Rhythm
Superfoods. Jensen now serves as a replacement
director and will be up for election next year.
"We have undertaken a lot of work to make
our board more inclusive, and the Governance
Committee used a rigorous process to develop the
SFA's board of directors," said Laura Lozada, vice
president of membership, when the board members
were announced during the annual member
meeting. "The SFA board holds annual elections
where general members of the Association are
eligible to vote for a slate of fellow members to
serve as directors on staggered three-year terms,
allowing for one-third of the directors to be up for
reconsideration each year."
The five directors elected to a three-year term
this year were Julie Busha, founder of Slawsa, along
with Giacomini Basch, Lim, Pruden, and Ho.

Resource Guides
The SFA has updated several of its resource guides
including its Co-Manufacturing Resource Guide,
Business Services Resource Guide, Distributor
Directory, and Broker Guide. These resources can be
found in the specialtyfood.com Learning Center. They
are free for SFA members and $200 for non-members.
The Co-Manufacturing Resource Guide is a
directory of SFA member companies that offer
co-manufacturing and/or co-packing services. The
guide organizes co-manufacturing providers by
category and includes information about facility
locations and size, certifications, restricted allergens,
allergens present, and special packaging and
processing capabilities.
The Business Services Resource Guide features
companies that provide products and services for
specialty food companies. The guide organizes these
providers by the categories that their offerings fall
under, includes explanations of the products and
services provided by each, as well as the size of
companies with which they typically work.
The Distributor Directory lists distributors,
including their location, phone, email, website,
territory, and principal listings, and the Broker Guide
features the names of brokers, who are independent
sales people or organizations that represent makers in
a defined geographic area. A broker's goals are to get
product to the shelf and to help makers market their
product to consumers. —J.G.
