28 State Capitol Ministries OKLAHOMA & ARKANSAS D r. Cheyne Day, who already leads a successful and well-attended Bible study to Oklahoma legislators, add- ed a ministry to members of the Arkansas legislators this year. Arkansas was one of the states that did not have a CapMin ministry, and so Pastor Cheyne agreed to lead Bible studies to legislators in that adjacent state until a ministry leader is recruited. Instead of meeting in person, Pastor Cheyne is leading separate online Bible studies. His first series was based on chapters 5-7 in Matthew, the Sermon on the Mount. e studies were taught from the perspective of an- swering the question, "How then shall we live?" as it relates to the teachings of Jesus. "e Sermon on the Mount is not about the mere reformation of our behavior," Pastor Cheyne said. "Instead, it has everything to do with the Lordship of Jesus Christ!" e Bible studies have been met with enthusiastic re- sponses. An Oklahoma senator wrote, "ank you so much for your thoughtful teaching. Very excited to participate in watching the videos!" An Arkansas State senator wrote, "ank you for your prayers and encouragement. Prayer changes everything!" Pastor Cheyne said he is committed to leading Bible studies in spite of meeting restrictions brought about by the pandemic or whether legislators are in or out of session. "ey need our prayers, encouragement, and they es- pecially need the Word of God," Pastor Cheyne said. "I pray each week that the Word of God "will not return empty but will accomplish what God desires and achieve the purposes for which He sent it (Isaiah 55:11)." Pastor Cheyne and his wife and ministry partner, Misty, are blessed to work together for the benefit of legislators who tend to be an overlooked group when it comes to out- reach. "e purpose of authentic Christian ministry has not changed in nearly 2,000 years," Pastor Cheyne said. "It is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, and that is my goal with our ministry to state legislators in Arkansas and Oklahoma." oklahoma capitol: Oklahoma City oklahoma legislature: 149 members arkansas capitol: Little Rock arkansas legislature: 135 members Cheyne Day State Director Oklahoma & Arkansas Oklahoma State Capitol Arkansas State Capitol Downtown Oklahoma City Little Rock skyline on the Arkansas River ARKANSAS OKLAHOMA
