Jeff and Tricia recently renovated and hung the JS Fitness and Wellness shingle at the former Odyssey Travel location adjacent to Holiday Village Mall at 1106 Ninth St. South, the business offers personal training for all ages and fitness levels in an excellent atmosphere that is non-intimidating. Spurgeon says being able to help others recover and reach their personal goals is rewarding. "We have a long history of working closely with Doctors, Physical erapists, and Chiropractors in assisting clients with strength, mobility, injury prevention, recovery, and pre and post-surgery," says Spurgeon. Assisting clients in building a foundation of trust with other practitioners is a key component of his business. "Our clients get beer care, and it's a win-win situation for all," adds Jeff. An outgoing and enthusiastic presence in any context, Spurgeon's training successes run the gamut from helping high school, collegiate, and professional athletes achieve their personal best. In the late 1990s, Jeff trained and managed more than six trainers and operated the personal training program at two facilities on the Nike campus in Portland. He worked with a handful of larger companies, like Laice Semiconductor, where he headed up personal training for the company executives. Spurgeon is unwavering in his approach to his clients. He evaluates lifestyles and comes up with a plan that balances busy schedules yet is realistic in achieving health and wellness forever. "Keeping it simple is something you'll hear me say quite oen. All components of fitness are important but not making a plan that's overwhelming is even more important. I start with less, and build confidence, energy, and motivation and, in the end, give them more," says Spurgeon. Spurgeon follows scientific principles when prescribing individualized fitness programs but is quick to dismiss a "no pain, no gain" approach. "at is something you'll never hear me say," he quips. "If your tactic is to intimidate, scare, and make your clients feel like they won't walk for days, then you might not have any clients. My goal is to teach, motivate, inspire, and restore overall fitness, health, and wellness for all my clients," adds Jeff.
