Contemporary and Chic Kitchen
When working with clients who support and embrace
the design vision, I know I have a good chance of
creating something unique! I was renovating a spacious
but very dated condo in the midtown of Toronto for a
soon-to-be-retired radiologist and his wife, a celebrated
children's book author and artist.
I wanted to create a comfortable place to relax, cook
and entertain. My clients dreamed about the elaborate
menus they would prepare in their new kitchen. I tried to
provide as much style and comfort as possible while
giving the space a contemporary and luxurious vibe.
The old kitchen was dark, lacking natural light and
isolated from the living space. It had no room for a
seating arrangement, and minimal storage. I was
determined to design a comfortable, well-lit space with
plenty of storage and prepping area. I've started
rearranging the layout to create an open-concept living/
kitchen space. New built-in appliances allowed me to
design seamless millwork panels without sacrificing
storage and performance.
A 12' peninsula became a centerpiece of this modern
kitchen, with plenty of storage and an area to cook and
entertain. Carefully selected materials make this
contemporary kitchen chic, inviting and easy to keep
up. The durability of the chosen finishes was an
essential part of the design. The new layout allowed me
to add a stylish pantry cabinet with large pocket doors
that housed a compact tea/coffee station with a serving
counter and additional storage for cups and cutlery,
including a file cabinet for the daily mail, recipes, bills
and warranty booklets.
Ultimately, I delivered the streamlined, functional area
with a few unexpected design elements and an inviting,
cozy atmosphere!
