RETAILOBSERVER.COM FEBRUARY 2023 36 FIRST PLACE / SPECIALTY KITCHEN Rebecca Foster Welton Design Group Photo: Tracey Ayton — Tracey Ayton Photography North Vancouver Laneway This West Coast Laneway home serves as an additional home on the clients' property as well as their primary residence. They wanted a space that felt inviting and cozy without highlighting the home's limited square footage. We designed a kitchen based on their love of pub-style dining with layers of materials that added dimension. Brick wall details, high ceilings of natural wood, a warm color palette and a custom banquette- style eating nook make the home feel lived in and comfortable. Storage was added in every possible space and the oversized island allows the family to host friends at the counter. A hanging open-shelving storage unit allows all the natural light to flood through, and a neutral backsplash and simple Shaker cabinet profile keeps the style cost effective and timeless. KEY FEATURES OF THIS PROJECT: • This quality laneway home is built to BC Step Code 3 • Carefully curated material selections suit home's character • Soft green cabinetry provides vibrancy, textural brick provides warmth • Kitchen layout highlights comfortable bench seating for family dinners allowing for table-like seating as well as a space to pull up a highchair. The bench seating also includes drawer storage beneath • Bench seat designed with easy to clean/wipeable material for a busy, young family • Efficient kitchen working triangle/liveable dining combination in a small footprint • Repurposed antique doors for closet storage adjacent to the kitchen • The wood ceiling mimics the engineered hardwood flooring, drawing attention to the architectural elements • Layers of lighting strategically placed • Roll-out shelving in pantry for easy-to-access storage • Hydronic infloor heating and custom-designed operable windows for comfort
