RETAILOBSERVER.COM MARCH 2023 64 R unning an appliance service business remotely can be a great way to keep your business running even in challenging times. With the rise of remote work and the ability to run businesses from anywhere, it can be a great way to maintain your business and keep it profitable. Here are some tips for running an appliance service business remotely: 1. Leverage technology: Utilizing technology can be a great way to run an appliance service business remotely. Investing in high-quality software and tools can not only help you manage and track customer orders and service requests, they can help with communication between you and your customers. Consider investing in customer relationship management (CRM) tools, video conferencing and remote support services. 2. Create a remote work policy: Develop a comprehensive policy that outlines your employees' expectations and guidelines. Make sure to include information on the hours they should be available, the communication channels they should use, and the tools they should have access to. 3. Invest in customer service: Providing excellent customer service is key to success in any business, and it's even more important for a remote appliance service business. Invest in customer service tools such as live chat and automated customer service software, as well as customer success teams to ensure that your customers' needs are being met. 4. Build relationships: Building relationships with existing and potential customers is essential for running a successful remote appliance service business. Develop relationships through customer service, social media, and networking events. 5. Develop a marketing strategy: Developing a comprehensive marketing strategy can help you reach new customers and keep your existing customers informed about your services. Consider developing targeted campaigns, utilizing content marketing, and investing in search engine optimization (SEO). 6. Maintain communications with your team: While remote work opportunities swept businesses as a result of the COVID pandemic, it is still important to maintain contact with those employees that you support. You'll need to monitor performance metrics closely, make sure they are handling parts correctly, and check routes to insure efficiency. It is also a good idea to call each person every week to check in and make sure things are going well, and also to have a monthly Zoom call to get the group discussion flowing. 7. Don't sleep on training: Technician training is an ongoing process that should not be shorted by remote work. If you do your own training, set up a time and place every quarter where you can get the team together and go through new processes or "high-call" repairs. You should also consider enhancement training for your office staff. A good way to insure proper training is to send some of your techs and support staff to PSA's annual convention, which will be held September 25-28 in Las Vegas. There will be a full four days of both technical and business training classes to take advantage of. By following these tips, you can successfully run your appliance service business remotely. Just remember that it's important to remain flexible and constantly evaluate your processes and procedures to ensure that your business is meeting the customers' needs and remaining profitable.
