Out West Art Show & Sale
Show and Sale Brings Unique Artists, Contests to Western Art Week
By Shannon Ruckman
T
he Out West Art Show and Sale welcome new and
returning artists to the Heritage Inn this year.
"e Out West Art Show is proud to continue our
legacy of bringing artists and collectors together every
March in Great Falls, Montana," says Johna Wilcox, show
executive director.
A returning Out West Art Show and Sale exhibitor, John
Isaiah Pepion, is featuring his legendary ledger art-infused
products, fine arts, scarves, blankets, and more. Pepion
is a Plains Indian graphic artist from the Piikani Band of
the Blackfoot Confederacy, based out of the Blackfoot
Reservation in northcentral Montana.
"I am best known for my ledger art, which is an art
tradition that developed in Plains tribes," says Pepion.
"e buffalo hides we traditionally used for painting
became scarce, Plains people were forced to adapt by
making artwork on ledger paper from accounting books.
I come from a family of artists, and ledger art has been in
my family for hundreds of years."
