Christina Rothe - The Spaces In-Between • 4' x 8' Thread painting on wood
Wall texts will explain different aspects of what a museum does and why they
exist, the different roles of staff in the museum, and how museums are used for
education. Questions in the wall text will generate thoughts and discussion
about individual pieces and the artists' inspiration and motivation behind
their creations.
Also on display will be the Love for the Arts Annual Exhibition: Under the
Red Roof. As part of its education mission, Paris Gibson Square partners with
EasterSeals-Goodwill to provide free art classes to adults with disabilities
through the Love for the Arts Program.
e museum's Director of Education, Ellie Weber, runs the program. Ellie says,
"e goal of the program is to allow and encourage personal expression so that
as individuals, they really can express themselves in whatever medium they are
working in. We are guiding them through that, but we're not looking for an end
result for the students to mimic, so it looks different for every person."
Under the Red Roof will feature work from over 35 participants in the
program. Ellie explains that the exhibition theme came from a classroom
discussion between adult students. eir resulting ceramics, paintings, and
drawings were inspired by carnivals and the circus, with an emphasis on play,
individuality, and connection. is form of creative expression through art
benefits the whole person mentally, emotionally, and physically through working
on hand dexterity.
An exciting time for Ellie is when the students come to the museum and see
their work on display. "I always want the students to see their work in the gallery.
ey're so excited knowing that it's going into the art museum," she says.
