SECOND PLACE / SECONDARY BATH
continued from page 13
Modern Jack & Jill Bath
Design Challenges:
• Commode & shower drain plumbing line conflicts with
structural floor joists
• Soffits creating low ceiling and a dimly lit space
• Inefficient storage with linen closet infringing on
floor space
• Entry doors swinging into valuable, usable floor space
Design Solutions:
• Turned commode, just clearing the structural joist
below, which allowed space for a generously sized,
glass-enclosed walk-in shower.
• Installed a linear drain directly below the shower
control wall to work within floor joist direction.
• Removed all soffits to elevate the visual appearance
and provide more uniform efficient lighting.
• Removed the linen closet and designed ample linen
and toiletry storage in the vanity base and upper
cabinetry with interior hidden mirrors for make-
up niche.
• Replaced swing doors with pocket doors allowing
more efficient floor space.
Special Features:
• Custom, wood-stained vanity millwork with generous
storage, internal make-up area, and mitered apron-
front quartz countertop
• Decorative tile backsplash with wall-mounted faucets
and LED back-lit mirrors
• Custom, wood-stained slat wall behind commode
with floating shelving and towel rod.
• Sliding glass door shower surround, corner bench,
large vertical functional and decorative niche, and
chrome hand shower.
