THIRD PLACE / POWDER ROOM
Picture This
Picture this: one stunning home in a neighboring
suburb of Chicago, and one stunning site in the foothills
of the Southwest. The directive from this couple was to
create something entirely different on one site from the
other, but be able to call them both a masterpiece.
The team began gathering information from the
clients and putting together a wonderfully mastered
floor plan and accompanying architecture to fit their
needs perfectly.
• The Powder room is the soul of the home and a
transition from the public to private zones within
the home.
• A 3D model was designed so the client and
construction team could check its function, its
special scale, its coloring in daylight and darkness,
and view all the materials in place as they actually
were selected. "We could address any concerns
before they became a problem."
• Working with great proportion and volume made it
possible to create a beautiful grand space that
matched the clients' desire for both drama and
comfort for the guest user.
• Part of the magic was done with texture, carefully
stitching the patterns together to create an experience
that is subliminal. Cork wallcovering, mirroring on the
walls and ceiling, and walnut panels perfectly executed
with brass inlays created an extraordinary experience.
``You can't put your finger on it, but you just love how
the spaces make you feel."
• For the space to generate energy in the different
times of the day and through seasonal changes, you
must light it accordingly. Utilizing the combination of
natural light, recessed can lighting, and sconces was
the perfect combination.
