16 | SIGNATURE MONTANA Van and his wife, Wallis Morger Bryan, selected a 6,000-square-foot site on Coonwood Drive and began designing a home inspired by the evolution they had seen within the walls of many older industrial buildings located in larger cities with histories stretching back much further than Bozeman's. "We found that reclaimed or revamped lo kind-of-feel to be very desirable, and that was a primary inspiration," he said. e result is a striking three-level, 4,200-square-foot home boasting four bedrooms, four-and-one-half baths, a more than 1,000-square-foot rooop deck, and a two-car garage – all siing on an overall footprint of less than 2,000 square feet. Van used a combination of corrugated metal lap siding and cedar rainscreen in colors of slate, off-white, and copper on the home's exterior, expertly establishing the residence as a transitional element that effectively ties the area's commercial and residential areas together. Inside, a plethora of exposed steel provides the necessary impetus for craing the home's lo-like vibe, reinforced further by the wide-open living areas on the main floor and ground-and-polished concrete floors on the main and basement levels. "It is a very open volume," Van noted. DECADENT DESIGN A home office sits in the open balcony. Soaring windows bathe the main living area in natural light. The winding, angular staircase is a mesmerizing work of art.
