Heart of the West
When Glenn Gilmore was inducted into Montana's Circle of
American Masters in Great Falls, Montana, in May of this year,
he could only reflect with gratitude on his life's journey, one in
which he's been able to carve out a living pursuing the work he loved.
It was artistic passion that prompted him to start creating artistic
forged metalwork in 1974 and pursue formal studies, first at the
Wolverine Farriers School in Michigan and then in Germany.
It was that passion that led him to work at the forge Vulkanschmiede
in Aachen and to create metalwork in European museums before
seling in Montana. Today the Gilmore Metalsmithing Studio
and Forging Atelier in Hamilton fulfills commissions from coast
to coast for site-specific architectural metalwork. Glenn designs
fireplace doors and screens in bronze, monel, copper, and steel
from his own original designs. He makes unique door hardware,
furniture, chandeliers, gates, and artistic railings, with influences
ranging from his Montana surroundings to his travels.
