DoubleTree Hotels adding allergy-free chocolate chip cookie to welcome guests DoubleTree by Hilton hotels is known for offering chocolate chip cookies to its guests during check-in, serving millions of cookies each year. Now, with "the goal of creating a more inclusive welcoming experience," the com- pany has announced it is offering guests a new allergy-friendly, soft chocolate chip cookie, alongside its original cookie. e allergen-free cookies are gluten- free, non-GMO, vegan and free of the top nine allergens (designated in the United States): wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, milk, eggs, soy, fish, sesame and shell- fish. ey are also individually wrapped to ensure they remain free from cross-contamination before being offered to guests. To create the new cookies, Dou- bleTree collaborated with Partake Foods, a Black-owned, woman- owned and led, allergy-friendly company. Founder and CEO Denise Woodard said in a Hil- ton news release, "We are thrilled to work with an iconic brand like DoubleTree by Hilton to create a more inclusive welcome for their guests at check-in. As a parent of a child with food allergies, I know firsthand how limited offerings are for those with allergies and dietary restrictions when traveling." "We recognize the impact that food allergies and dietary restric- tions have on millions of people in their daily lives and know it can prove challenging during travel," said Shawn McAteer, brand leader, DoubleTree by Hilton. It is highly encouraging that most participants, includ- ing those with and without food allergy, expressed interest in attending an epinephrine autoin- jector training course and learn- ing more about assisting someone during an allergic reaction." Engel also shared several recom- mendations with Healio saying, "Colleges may wish to engage in campus-wide food allergy educa- tion initiatives. Simple, low-cost efforts could go a long way. For example, freshman orientation or health classes could include a module on anaphylaxis, as well as mandatory training in epineph- rine administration." She also suggested "education efforts could [begin] earlier…pre- paring peers to recognize and treat anaphylaxis as early as the elemen- tary, middle or high school years. Many health classes require train- ing in first aid, CPR, choking and automated external defibrillator use. It would seem worthwhile to expand this to include anaphylaxis and epinephrine use."
