The Masonic Apron of
MERIWETHER
and the Legacy of
Freemasonry in Montana
LEWIS
William Lewis Anderson loved to tell how he
came to possess a silver pocket watch and a
Masonic apron, which once belonged to his
famous uncle, Captain Meriwether Lewis.
e apron figures prominently in the mystery
of Meriwether Lewis's death. Displayed at the
Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Montana in Helena,
how its journey ended is an interesting tale.
It is also significant because of Lewis's
affiliations with Montana and the Masonic
traditions later brought to the state.
