DECADENT DESIGN 16 | SIGNATURE MONTANA When Studio Architects' managing partner and principal architect Leah Shute began studying the nearly 6.5-acre mountainside property that would ultimately become the site of the Big Sky Meadow Home, she immediately knew that drawing the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape into the living space would be her primary design focus. "e home is situated on a lovely south-facing lot," Shute says of the nearly 5,000-square-foot residence, which features stunning panoramic views of the Gallatin Range with the Gallatin Canyon stretching out in the distance. "By and large, my goals were to nestle the house into the landscape and to take in as much of the view, the surroundings, and that southern light as I could." Shute's expertly craed plan hit the mark – far surpassing the standard expectations of a contemporary, mountain-modern abode. e two-level Big Sky Meadow Home's mono-pitched roof design opens up to the covetable southernly view while also maximizing solar gain. "Much of the living spaces are oriented to take in the southern exposure, including the outdoor living spaces," Shute notes. "Even in the winter, it creates a lovely, sunny environment that is also somewhat protected." e pitch and direction of the roof, combined with large windows on the southern side of the residence, capture light and bring it even deeper into the home. The panoramic views from the master bath are breathtaking. A serene sitting area situated just off the kitchen is capped off by the stunning forest scene.
