Step into the vibrant world of Western Art Week, a celebration that
beckons artists and art aficionados alike to the enchanting city of
Great Falls. Now in its 54th year, this annual extravaganza promises a
week steeped in creativity and inspiration, where the spirit of the Wild
West comes alive through the strokes of masterful artists.
Western Art Week is an artistic spectacle set against the backdrop of
Montana's picturesque landscapes. e event unfolds annually around
March 19th, a heartfelt commemoration of the birthday of Montana's
revered cowboy artist, Charlie Russell. As recounted by Rebecca
Engum, the Executive Director of Visit Great Falls, this cultural
extravaganza originated in 1969 as an art auction and fundraiser for
the C.M. Russell Museum. Over the years, it has burgeoned into a
grand spectacle, with the 2024 edition boasting the participation of
over 700 artists from Montana and beyond. Spanning from
Wednesday, March 13th to Sunday, March 17th, the event
showcases more than 15 individual shows across various
venues in the Great Falls area.
Rebecca emphasizes the diverse nature of Western Art
Week, going beyond the conventional art show with
offerings like fashion shows, educational symposiums, music,
dance, and lectures. "It's not just what people may think of as a
