Gary, who paints with oils from his residence in the Bierroot Valley, strives for historical accuracy in his artwork. However, he perceives himself primarily as a storyteller rather than solely a historical painter. His artworks vividly capture the dynamic energy of a Native American buffalo hunt and the weariness of a cowboy riding into town aer an extensive journey on the trail. "I try to tell a story in my paintings so the viewer can step into the painting, walk around, and feel what my subject is feeling. at's what I try to achieve whenever I paint," states Gary. Steve Wilson, an artist residing in the Bierroot Valley, also delves into the realm of oils. His creations allow the viewer to envision themselves meandering through an aspen forest or indulging in a romantic dinner on the periphery of a verdant winery. ey evoke emotions universal to humanity. In "Sheep," a solitary member of the flock stands apart as dusk descends and the creatures make their way homeward. Steve reveals, "Sometimes you feel like you get stuck in your own world trying to figure things out. You're not always with the pack." Steve has frequented Western Art Week as a patron numerous times, yet this year marks his inaugural experience from an exhibitor's perspective. As one of Friday's Quick Draw artists, he anticipates immersing himself promptly in the exhilaration of the Out West Art Show. "I'm looking forward to being among such high-caliber artists," he affirms. "I'm looking forward to geing inspiration from them and learning from them. I'm really jacked!"
