Cantrell's love for camping and the outdoors informs his use of negative space, emphasizing the grandeur of wildlife. His desire to share his knowledge was highlighted during a memorable mentorship moment at the previous year's show. "I sat down with her for a couple of hours teaching her. I taught her the way I paint rocks, which is the hardest thing for me with watercolors. She picked it up right away. I was a lile jealous," he laughs. Reflecting on the strong bonds among the Western Heritage Artists, Cantrell celebrates the sense of community during Western Art Week: " Everyone gets along, and we laugh and help each other out. It's a wonderful collective of artists," notes Cantrell. "If someone comes to me looking for a cowboy, that's not me, but I know just who to refer them to, and the same is done for me if someone is looking for a picture of an elk. It's a cool lile group of artists we have here." e Footprints on the Trail Art Show is more than an exhibition; it's an invitation to delve into the rich fabric of Western culture, where each piece speaks to the enduring spirit of the West.
