"If you enjoy artwork by artists who dare to be different, then you will love our show," declares Pickthorn, seing the tone for an exhibition that prides itself on innovation and creativity. e show is a kaleidoscope of artistic expression, featuring an array of mediums from woodworking and handmade jewelry to bronze sculptures, alongside paintings and engravings on unconventional canvases like glass and vintage vases. "I encourage the artists to try new things and not be stagnant in their work," Pickthorn articulates, embodying the spirit of perpetual growth and exploration that the Wild Bunch champions. Since its inception during Western Art Week in 2010, the Wild Bunch has cultivated a community of artists bound by loyalty and mutual support, a sentiment echoed by Pickthorn: "e artists are really supportive of each other, and everybody celebrates a sale no maer who it is. at makes for a fun group anxious to visit with folks. at's important, and that's noted." e camaraderie and collective spirit foster an environment where creativity thrives, underscored by a rigorous jury process that ensures the show 's high caliber is maintained year aer year. Among the curated talents is Lois Skibstad Huntzicker, a new addition to the Wild Bunch who brings a profound appreciation for the elemental beauty of pencil on paper. Reflecting on her upbringing in Montana and the influence of her Norwegian heritage, Huntzicker shares, " We didn't have money for fancy art supplies, so the pencil was my foundation." Her commitment to the foundational skills of drawing, honed over a career in teaching, underscores a philosophy that mastery of the basics paves the way for artistic exploration. "I feel that drawing is the foundation of all art. I would tell my students, you can go any direction whether it's fashion, architecture, design, as long as you can start with that basic pencil," she explains. e Wild Bunch also welcomes Sara Orchard, a newcomer to Western Art Week and the show, whose work with fused glass introduces a dynamic visual language to the exhibition. From her studio in Belgrade, Orchard cras pieces that are as functional as they are enchanting, capturing fleeting moments in glass with a skill that masks the complexity of her medium. "I love glass because it is constantly changing," Orchard observes, sharing insights into the demanding and often unpredictable process of working with fused glass. "You can use different temperatures in your kiln to get different effects. You can use different types of glass to get different effects. Sometimes you're surprised when it comes out, but once it goes in the kiln, you're commied." e Wild Bunch Art Show, under Pickthorn's astute leadership, stands as a beacon for artists who venture beyond the conventional, fostering a space where innovation, community, and the sheer joy of creation converge.
