Whether you're a guest at the Hotel Arvon for Western Art Week
or just passing through, make sure to take a moment to explore
the numerous original artworks adorning the walls of this historic
Great Falls establishment. Built in 1890 and meticulously restored
in 2015 by the present owner, Peter Jennings, and his partners, the
hotel stands as a testament to their appreciation for art. Peter and his
partners, avid art enthusiasts, acknowledged the inherent worth of
featuring a wealth of talent from the local artist community during
the restoration process.
In the illustrious array of artistic brilliance showcased at the
Hotel Arvon, one luminary figure stands out: the esteemed Great
Falls artist, Mimi Grant. Her contributions have graced the hotel's
collection for an extended tenure, serving as a testament to her
enduring talent and unwavering dedication to her cra. Mimi's
artistic journey began with oils, a medium through which she initially
expressed her creative vision. However, it was her serendipitous
encounter with scratchboard that heralded a profound evolution in
her artistic expression. Embracing this intricate technique of direct
engraving, wherein dark ink is meticulously scratched away from
the surface of cardboard to unveil a pristine white or colored layer
beneath, Mimi embarked on a transformative exploration of texture,
form, and narrative depth.
