Graphics may be submitted in computer form on disk, or as camera-ready hardcopy. Hand drawn sketches are accepted. Be aware that publication may be delayed if we must prepare publication quality drawings from hardcopy. The physical media submitted becomes the property of the NAR and cannot be returned unless pre -arranged with the editor. I recently purchased the new Estes 1:200-scale Space Shuttle. is is an RTF kit, but you do have to tie on the parachute and insert balancing clay into a slot on the un- derside of the orbiter before your can fly. e orbiter is molded from styrofoam (or some- thing similar) and returns by glide recovery. e model is stabilized in flight by plug-in clear plastic fins, which are the same design as used on the Estes SLS kit. One of my fin units was warped, but I was able to correct this by heating it with a hair dryer for a min- ute and applying some judicious bending. You assemble the display stand by insert- ing a clear stalk through the base and secur- ing it in place with a clear plastic screw-on cap. is cap is the same shape as the opaque white plastic engine retainer of the model, so it can serve as a spare if you lose your engine retainer. Nice. e External Tank's plastic nose cone has an clever feature that I hadn't seen before: e attachment loop that you tie the para- chute lines onto has a downward extension that prevents the parachute lines or shock cord from sliding up the side of the loop. is will help prevent the lines accidentally sliding up there and making the nose fit too tight, helping prevent a non-deployment di- saster. Very nice. I haven't flown the model yet, so I can't say how well it works. Here is a picture of it on the end of my 1:200 scale model shelf next to the Estes SLS model. ★ ★
