NORTH AMERICA
With a mission to launch ministries in all 50 U.S. states and an already noteworthy record of
new ministry plants, Pastor Matt Goodsell was named North American (NA) global director
this year. In this role, Pastor Matt is charged with expanding the ministry throughout the U.S.
and Canada. Last year as assistant NA global director, Pastor Matt recruited seven ministry
leaders who have launched or are preparing to launch new state legislative Bible studies.
Even as a youth in his home country of Australia, Pastor Matt had a strong desire to minister
to political leaders. As senior pastor at Ashland Baptist Church, he would drive 20 miles to the
Missouri State Capitol during his free time to walk the halls praying for political leaders and
seeking an opportunity to share the Gospel with them. In 2019, Pastor Matt was searching the
Internet looking for tips on how to minister to political leaders and found Capitol Ministries.
He joined with us and established a ministry to state leaders that same year. In 2022, he stepped
down from the church to work full-time with CapMin. In addition to his duties as global di-
rector, Pastor Matt leads five Bible studies in the Missouri State Capitol to senators, representa-
tives, Capitol staff, and legislative aides. Every week during Session, Pastor Matt delivers print-
ed, color Bible studies to 200 offices at the Capitol including the offices of the Secretary of State,
Lt. Gov., Treasurer, and Governor. "A lot of fantastic ministry happens during those times," he
said. "My heart's desire is to partner with CapMin in this great effort to reach political leaders
with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. e best thing that can happen in any nation is to have leaders
who are faithful to the Gospel. is is the most important mission field in the world today."
