SWIM LESSON INFO Morton Grove Park District | 6834 Dempster Street | (847) 965-1200 | mortongroveparks.com 22 SWIM LESSON LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS COME JOIN THE FUN! Level 2 Swimmers will learn basic water safety and survival skills including fl oating without assistance, introduction to freestyle and backstroke, treading water, and more! Level requirements include comfortability in 3-5 ft. deep water, blowing bubbles, and willingness to submerge underwater without assistance. Level 3 Swimmers will improve their freestyle and backstroke in this level and will be introduced to new strokes as well. This level introduces headfi rst entries as well as endurance strategies to help build strong swimmers. Level requirements include prior ability to perform freestyle and backstroke without assistance. Level 4 Instructors focus on refi ning previously learned strokes while providing swimmers with foundational knowledge on breaststroke and dolphin kicks. Swimmers will review treading water and headfi rst entries. Level requirements include the ability to perform freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke without assistance. Level 5 Swimmers will be introduced to all four competitive swimming strokes. Swimmers will practice stroke drills to improve their technique as well as build endurance in the pool. This level introduces fl ip turns. Level requirements include the confi dent ability to perform freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke without assistance as well as endurance to swim at least 25 yards without stopping. Swimmers advance through levels while learning new skills in order to become stronger and more confi dent in the water. Following completion of all skills at the starting level, participants then move onto the next level for the following session. Each child will receive a report card at the end of each session. Please note: Children ages 3-5 should sign up for Tiny Splash Swim Lessons where children explore the water in a zero-depth entry pool without a parent or guardian. SWIM LESSON CANCELLATION POLICY In the event that swim lessons cannot run in the water, the Park District will cancel lessons. Park District will update the Pool Hotline (847-965-7558) when Swim Lessons are cancelled. Note: Classes will run in light rain and cold weather. Classes will only get cancelled due to severe weather. SWIM LESSON REFUND POLICY No refunds will be issued for cancellations due to weather or other circumstances outside of our control. If a class is canceled by the park district, Fridays will serve as a makeup day. You will be notifi ed via email if a makeup day is scheduled. Refunds will not be provided for missed classes and lessons will not be prorated. Thank you for your understanding. JUNIOR LIFEGUARD CLASS This camp focuses on teaching students the skills necessary to become a future lifeguard. Participants will learn in water rescue techniques along with basic lifeguarding principles.This class focuses on teaching students the skills necessary to become a future lifeguard. Junior Lifeguards will receive a certifi cate of completion at the end of the class. It focuses on competitive techniques and prepares participants for local swim club entry. Swimmers must be able to demonstrate 25 yd front crawl (freestyle) with side breathing and 25 yd backstroke to register.
