portfolio CELEBRATION OF NATIVE PLAINS ARTISTS A Celebration of Native Artistry Beads, Threads, and the Spirit of Timeless Traditions The Celebration of Native Plains Artists has deep roots in Montana's artistic heritage, originating as the Harvest Moon Ball—an event founded by Elouise Cobell in Glacier Park to showcase the talents of Native American artists and artisans. Over time, the show found a new home in Great Falls, carrying forward its mission of cultural celebration. As organizer Leah Noel explains, "Charlie Russell was enamored with Native American culture and traditions, and it was a big focus for a lot of his work." Given Russell's deep appreciation for Indigenous life and the spirit of the West, the show is a natural fit for Western Art Week, serving as a major araction at the Great Western Show at Montana ExpoPark. is year marks a milestone—the event's 10th anniversary—bringing with it an electrifying lineup, including a Native fashion show and a dance performance. e presentation begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, featuring a drum group and dancers from the Missouri River Dance Company, who will perform a series of traditional dances. With the steady pulse of the drum and the soulful power of Indigenous song, the performance promises to be a stirring tribute to Native heritage. "I have had people over the years moved to tears because they have never had the opportunity to witness authentic Native American traditional dancers and drummers," Noel shares. en, the spotlight shis to seven Native American designers as they take center stage for a groundbreaking fashion show—the first of its kind—where traditional artistry meets contemporary innovation. Each collection tells a story, weaving heritage and modern design into wearable works of art.
