T
he Retail Observer is officially stepping into its fully digital future.
While I'm excited about this transition, I can't help but reflect on one of
my earliest memories in the industry. Years ago, when I started at
McPhail's Appliance, the very first thing my boss handed me was the printed
edition of The Retail Observer. Back then, it was widely known as "The Bible of
the Appliance Industry."
All these years later, it feels fitting — and a bit sentimental — to welcome a
new chapter for this publication. Going digital represents progress,
sustainability, and a better way to share information in an industry that is
constantly evolving. Beginning this month, you'll receive the magazine online,
offering a greener and more accessible way to stay connected. To receive your
monthly copy, simply subscribe at: www.retailobserver.com/subscribe.
Each month, you'll get an email linking you to the newest issue — complete
with page-flipping animations, audio features, embedded video, clickable
links, printable pages, downloadable PDFs, and more. Our tech-savvy readers
will appreciate the upgrades, but even if you prefer simplicity, the digital edition
still lets you "flip" through the pages much like the print version. You can
download articles, print pages, or email content directly from the platform. And
if you miss a keynote speaker at a trade show, one click on their photo may
take you to a streaming video of their presentation.
Our website is fully responsive, so whether you're reading from a phone,
tablet, or desktop, the magazine adapts seamlessly. If you're reading this issue
now, the digital version is already available at www.retailobserver.com
As we launch this fifth chapter of the magazine's life, we want to express
deep gratitude to the readers who have supported us for more than five
decades. From its origins as the Northern California Retailer in 1970 under
Charles Edmonds, through Don Martin's leadership in 1988, and back again
under Edmonds in 1990 when it evolved into The Retail Observer, this
publication has grown alongside the industry it serves.
Now, with The Retail Observer Digital, we're excited to continue that
tradition — with more tools, more capabilities, and more ways to stay connect-
ed than ever before.
