S P O R T I N G C L A S S I C S 1 4 6 young age of 12, David got a taste for the angling and hunting life that has grown ever stronger over the years. This passion continues to appear in his paintings and sculptures of the sporting life. Working in acrylic paints with many washes of color, David's favorite subjects include trout, flies, bird dogs and upland game. "Two of my favorite things to do in the great outdoors are to witness the rise of a trout to a dry fly or watching a bird dog working a cover." David's River Map paintings bring back many special moments on his favorite waters. "The River Map paintings rekindle memories and start many conversations about times spent on the water," he says. Commissioned paintings of your favorite waters can be skillfully created upon your request. David occasionally adds clay to his paintings, creating a unique dimension to his art. Some of the sculpted pieces are recreated in castings, and each is hand painted by the artist. www.davidruimveldstudio.com ♦ Joshua Spies Joshua Spies grew up observing wildlife on the vast prairies near his hometown of Watertown, South Dakota.
