The university has committed to doubling the number of students studying abroad by 2019. To help support CMU's pledge, Karen Arthur, director of business student services in the College of Business Administration, traveled to Asia and Europe during the past year to help develop and strengthen university partnerships. "Today's business students give themselves a competitive edge when they choose to pursue international study experiences. But more than that, they gain an incredible lifelong learning perspective," Arthur said. CMU off ers international study opportunities at more than 150 sites in 40 countries. About 60 CBA students participate each year. "Students contemplating overseas study often have fi nancial concerns," Arthur said. "The College of Business Administration is eager to work with individuals and organizations that may be interested in supporting international learning experiences for today's business students." Arthur, who spent a year in Austria after high school and returned to study in Germany during her junior year of college, says overseas study builds a sense of perspective in a global knowledge economy. "It's important to see how business is done elsewhere and experience new challenges and diff erent ways of being," Arthur said. "International travel is not just a semester you did in college – it opens a door for future global awareness and an eagerness to surround yourself with diff erent ways of thinking."
