I t's that time of year again! A vast array of late Summer/early Fall events and activities await us all. As you read through the pages of this issue, you will be able to explore in depth some of the extraordinary happenings on the Peninsula. The automobile related events, which descend upon us in greater numbers every year, are legendary. Even for a non-car guy like me, it's a ton of fun. The visual aspect of these exotic and rare cars alone is something to behold. The parties surrounding Car Week events are amazing. Driving through town is unusually colorful with an abundance of bright red and yellow Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Maseratis, among others. If cars aren't for you, two great events take place in August. There's the West End Celebration in Sand City, which showcases art and music with headliner Sonny Landreth. Big names like Beck and The National are com- ing to the First City festival at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center. In September, we have the 57th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, recently voted " World's Best Jazz Festival" by the readers of Jazz Times Magazine. The Jazz Fest has a stellar lineup this year, with more than 500 artists performing on eight stages. Now if music, art and cars aren't your thing, check out this issue for ideas for wine tasting at some of the area's world-class wineries and tasting rooms, culinary adven- tures at award-winning restaurants, and shopping at unique and creative local businesses. And don't forget to visit our incredible local beaches and explore our local marine life. We have a feature with stunning tidepool photos that artist/photographer Brandy Gale took in Carmel. The hiking, sightseeing, ocean life, history and diverse culture all contribute to make the Monterey Peninsula the travel destination it has become. As locals, we are fortunate to live here. For visitors, we are happy to welcome you. The economy continues to get better and people seem to have a generally improved attitude compared to a couple years ago. I have huge hopes for the coming years. As you may notice, this edition of Carmel Magazine is substan- tially larger than our last few issues. That increase allows us to have additional stories and photographs, and is due to support from our advertisers. When vis- iting local businesses, please mention if you saw their ad here, as I know they would appreciate it. A note to our advertisers: know that I cannot thank you enough for your continued support. We rely on your advertising dollars to produce the content, which our readers look forward to, and to print and distribute 35,000 copies each quarter. 40 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • S U M M E R / F A L L 2 0 1 4 PUBLISHER'S NOTE S T E V E S N I D E R The automobile related events, which descend upon us in greater numbers every year, are legendary.
