4 Dear Friends: Education is not simply a job; it is a calling. Faculty here at CBA live for that "perfect teaching moment" — when the light bulb illumines. That's why we strive to create and maintain the kind of learning environment that supports those moments. For decades we have been doing this in historic Grawn Hall — an edifi ce built over a century ago. Today's students experience a continuing transformation in learning styles including team building, asynchronous contribution to integrative projects, crowd support and consensus building through social media. Clear, concise, persuasive digital communication, both verbal and graphic, is the imperative. We now see more complex group dynamics, more interaction outside the classroom and a faster pace to learning than ever before. For this, we need an enabling and up-to-date environment. Too many of our students experience their day in school more like a fast food drive- through than a day at the offi ce. This will be the new Grawn Hall—an environment that invites students to tarry between classes, meet with colleagues who share their professional interests, pause with professors to explore the kernel of an idea that was sparked during class discussion, and build business ideas that can garner start-up support from our New Venture Competition. CBA student transitions to business professionals will be smartly enabled by this needed modernization of Grawn Hall.
