The joy and pleasure of eating was still a largely unexamined topic
in 1977 when opera singer turned talk-show host Beverly Sills took
it on in her local television show, "Lifestyles with Beverly Sills." With
her guests, renowned food writers Craig Claiborne and Gail Greene
and Dr. Henry Jordan, a psychiatrist and co-author of Eating is OK,
Sills discussed seemingly new topics for the time—mindless eating
and empty caloric intake; oversized restaurant portions; and the pull
of comfort food.
