Original (with 90 calories and 1 gram of sugar) mixes in peanuts and sunflower seeds; Power Fuel (with 80 calories and less than 1 gram of sugar) adds chia and pumpkin seeds; and Dark Chocolate (with 80 calories and 1 gram of sugar) a mix of peanuts, sunflower seeds, and 70% Peruvian dark chocolate. The company, founded by a mom of two, also offers nut butters in jars. gonuttzo.com Sid Wainer & Son Kilchurn Estate Honey Butter and Jansal Valley Apple and Pumpkin Butters. This company enters the butter game with two brands of offerings. Its Kilchurn Estate honey butter whips pure honey in small batches to control crystallization and achieve a smooth, creamy texture. Introduced last year, the sweet spread is made in the wetlands of Argentina. The Jansal Valley line uses Sonata apples grown along Oregon's Hood River for its apple butter, adding lemon juice and fresh thyme for a sub- tle sweetness. The pumpkin butter combines sweet Cinderella pumpkin puree with cinnamon, cloves, and car- damom. Both fruit butters are fat-free and make their debut in early 2015. sidwainer.com The Squirrel Brand Almond Butters in Creme Brulee and Italian Black Truffle. These almond butters packaged in 12-ounce jars, were inspired by the company's flavored almond products: Italian black truffle and creme brulee. The butter version of the former pairs a natural almond butter paste with sea salt, black summer truffles from Northern Italy, and natural truffle flavor. For the latter, California almonds are dry-roasted and, while still warm, ground and mixed with sugar, salt, and natural fla- vors. Founded in 1888, the Texas-based company is independent and family-owned and produces flavored nuts and nut mixes in addition to nut but- ters. squirrelbrand.com WINTER 2015 89
