The company philosophy of "Be fair and honest and you will have a customer forever," has resulted in a loyal customer base, including some customers who have been working with ALS team members long before there was an ALS. ALS operates from a state-of-the-art 45,000 square-foot building in Irvine, CA, a facility built 10½ years ago to better serve its customers and accommodate growth. The ability to provide a quality product has been equally instrumental in forging long-term customer relation- ships. Each machine is tested and receives a thorough inspection by ALS technicians. That information can be easily accessed by customers on ALS's Website. There they'll fi nd a report for each machine along with a description of anything that may affect a client's decision to purchase that product. "There are no surprises when dealing with us," says co-owner Brad Stammer. "We can't afford to bend the truth to make a deal because we'll lose the next deal after it. We tell them what it is, not what they want to hear." This eliminates the need to make things right after a product has been shipped and received. "We don't try to fi x it later, but take more of an upfront approach so we don't have to go back and haggle," adds Stammer. "People who want machines usually have them sold to some degree or have a need for them in the very near future so sometimes when you give them something they're not expecting and they have to order parts and that could take a couple of weeks and you might have just cost them a sale." Customers have found ALS a reliable source for high-demand models from Canon, Ricoh, Konica Minolta, and Xerox. During the past year many more Xerox machines have hit the wholesale market, providing ALS with a broader selection of products to offer customers. ALS moves more than 2,000 units per month in North America, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. In addi- tion to end-of-term and repossessed copiers, ALS sources fax machines, printers, and computers. The average monthly inventory is approximately 2,500-units. In an industry where reputation is critical to longevity, ALS is well respected. "Most people in the industry have heard about us or dealt with us in some shape or form," says Stammer. "Even dealers who don't normally buy used know us because they've had us handle a lease return or have shipped equipment to our warehouse." Besides sourcing product from leasing companies, ALS buys used machines on a regular basis from dealers too. For customers who need used equipment, why should they call ALS before anyone else? "Our diverse inventory and the way we operate," responds Stammer.
