48 | s p r i n g 2 0 1 5 so he could argue both sides of some points depending on the situation, and he took drawing classes and piano lessons as an elderly man. he married his wife, Clare, on Christmas Day 1941, and she passed away in 2009. he is survived by three sons, nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Albert Charles Martin '42, MD '44, died on aug. 9, 2014. a distinguished physician, Martin was active in religious and civic organizations and a devoted family man. growing up in harvey, ill., he completed his undergraduate and medical degree at the university of illinois in urbana-Champaign, followed by an internship at the illinois Central hospital. he went on to serve in the u.s. navy as a Medical officer on an aircraft carrier. he married his wife, Dorothy, on March 2, 1945, in Chicago, and the couple resided in harvey, where Martin began work as a general practice physician. in 1950, they moved to luverne, Minn., where he established his own practice. after 21 years, he accepted a position as an emergency care physician with the nW Permanente Clinic in Portland, ore., where he was named a "Distinguished Physician." after retiring in 1987, the couple resided in lake oswego, ore., until Dorothy's death in 1997. he moved to Portland's West hills and later, to an independent living retirement center in Wilsonville, ore. While in luverne, Martin was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church. he was also involved in the luverne Commandery no. 22 knights templar, the living arch Chapter no. 28, a 25-year member of the luverne rotary and sons of the american revolution, and a 50-year member of the Ben Franklin Masonic lodge no. 114. When he lived in Wilsonville, he was a member of the st. Francis episcopal Church. an avid reader, writer and lifelong learner, Martin enjoyed growing orchids and could often be found in his rose gardens. he is survived by three daughters, six grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. John Andrews '53, MD '55, of savannah, ga., died on april 21, 2014. after attending the College of Medicine, where he was a member of nu sigma nu Medical Fraternity, andrews interned at Cook County hospital in Chicago. he met his wife, sandy, in the operating room while both were students at st luke's hospital in Chicago and the couple was married on sept 24, 1955. andrews served for two years in the u.s. navy as lt. Medical officer and ship's doctor on four destroyers touring the Pacific. returning home to Waukegan, ill., andrews joined William Barnes, MD, in family practice for the next 40 years, providing compassionate care through generations of families. andrews served as president of the victory Medical staff at victory Memorial hospital in 1969 and the lake County Medical society in 1972. For 10 years, he was also chairman of the Physician review Board at the illinois state Medical insurance exchange in Chicago. andrews retired from medical practice in 1996 and moved with his wife to a house they built on skidaway island in savannah, where he enjoyed playing golf. the couple joined the skidaway island united Methodist Church and found many great friends. andrews is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, sandy, their four children and eight grandchildren. Kevin Mover '77, MD '82, of Champaign died on Dec. 3, 2014, in urbana. Born in Chicago to irving and ruth zalzsman Mover, he was the much beloved husband of Marijana novitovic. they were married on March 29, 1982, and had one daughter, kelly ann Mover of Champaign. a family man and a Chicago Blackhawks fan, Mover was a physician at Carle Foundation hospital in urbana. to make a memorial gift to the college, please contact the office of Medical Advancement at (312) 996-4470 or med-email@uic.edu.
