domway USA, a division of Kingdomway, Xiamen, China, is the world's largest sup- plier of coenzyme Q10, among other nutri- tional raw materials. Supplement association responds to NY AG's latest action WASHINGTON, DC—In Sept- ember, New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued another round of cease-and-desist letters to dietary sup- plement manufacturers. The targets this time were 13 companies selling products labeled as "devil's claw." The AG declared nutra news Vitatech acquired by Kingdomway TUSTIN, CA—Vitatech Nutri- tional Sciences was bought by King- domway USA, San Clemente, CA, and renamed Vit-Best Nutrition. The company will continue to offer all of Vitatech's prod- ucts and contract services, including pow- ders, two-piece capsules, tablets, capsule- banding, enteric coating, custom coating, packaging, and product formulation. King- the products adulterated after DNA bar- code testing indicated they contained Harpagophytum zeyheri, a plant species closely related to, but less expensive than, Harpagophytum procumbens, a botanical found mainly in southern Africa and regarded as authentic devil's claw. Presi- dent and CEO of the Council for Respon- sible Nutrition Steve Mister responded, "The companies involved should be per- mitted to defend their methods of ingre- dient testing and to justify their use of par- ticular species of botanicals before being declared misbranded or adulterated. As we have seen before, investigations by the New York Attorney General's office are rarely as clear-cut as they might seem." Supplement companies launch Coalition for Supplement Sustainability MANCHESTER, NH—Several dietary supplement brands and ingredient man- ufacturers have formed Coalition for Sup- plement Sustainability, a trade association dedicated to maintaining sustainable, independently verifiable, and transparent standards across the supplement supply chain. Study: Vitamin E intake "suboptimal" in US PARSIPPANY, NJ—The majority of American adults do not consume enough vitamin E, which may impair their health, according to a Public Library of Science One study. Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Sur- vey, researchers determined that, among those depending solely on food sources, 93 percent of 20- to 30-year-olds and 81 percent of those aged 31 and older had suboptimal vitamin E status, defined as intake of fewer than 15 milligrams per day. Those taking vitamin E supplements fared marginally better, with 79 percent of 20- to 30-year-olds, 54 percent of 31- to 50-year-olds, and 29 percent of those over 51 having a suboptimal intake. Opti- mal intake of vitamin E has been clinically shown to be associated with improved overall mortality rates, cognitive function, and reproductive health. 6982 Bandini Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90040 | Toll Free: (800) 360-SGTI | Phone: (323) 726-0700 focus@soft-gel.com | www.soft-gel.com A Singular Focus We make softgels.
